Good morning, Los Angeles. You’re reading Obsessed LA, your insider guide to what’s actually worth being obsessed with in the city. Each week, we highlight the restaurants, pop-ups, and hidden gems that capture LA’s best energy.
This is our very first issue, and the response has already been unreal. In just two weeks, hundreds of Angelenos have signed up to get Obsessed LA in their inbox, which is proof that people still want real recommendations, not recycled lists. Big name or small, it just has to be worth it.
My goal is simple: to create a movement to rediscover the city we love and to celebrate the food, creativity, and spirit that make LA unlike anywhere else.
Alright, enough about me. Let’s get into everything worth obsessing over this week.
The Obsessions
The Douglas - Echo Park

In honor of World Series week, this is a personal favorite.
There’s something special about The Douglas on game night. You’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the corner of Sunset, beer in hand, a TV hanging off the wall, and the street humming with Dodgers fans who look like they all somehow know each other. It’s the kind of place that reminds you LA is still a neighborhood city if you know where to stand.
The crowd’s chill, the bartenders remember your order, and the whole thing feels like an unplanned block party that somehow happens every week.
If you’re visiting, this is where you go to feel like you live here. If you live here, you already know. Johnny and the crew run this place like a local clubhouse. Easy smiles, quick pours, no pretense, just good energy.
Meet Me at the Douglas.
Rasarumah - Historic Filipinotown

Some places make great food. Rasarumah somehow makes great evenings AND great food. We showed up and they had our names written on the marquee! This soft, thoughtful gesture instantly made the night feel personal before we even sat down. Not in a flashy, “look at us” way, but in a “someone actually cared” way.
The food is warm, layered, and generous, the kind that makes you stop mid-conversation for a second. But in addition to food, what makes this place truly memorable is the combination of food and service. They see you. They want you to feel welcome, not impressed. Maddie, the bartender made us feel like we were family.
If you go, go slow. Let the night breathe. Ask about the sambals. Say thank you. This one stays with you.
Make it a night.

League of Comedy: Pop-Up Shows Across LA

Live comedy only works if the room is right, and League of Comedy gets that. No influencer crowds. Not as much noise. Really just connection, community, and laughs that actually land.
They’re building something that feels like LA before everything became content: real people, real comics, and the kind of spontaneity that made the city’s comedy scene legendary.
League of Comedy is creating a platform that connects fans, comedians, venues, and shows that is making it easier than ever to find what’s funny and what’s next. If you care about the future of LA comedy, give them a follow and get excited.

Sushi Note - Sherman Oaks

This is the kind of place you plan for. Sushi Note isn’t loud about what it does, it’s patient, precise, and quietly confident.
The chefs glide between movements with a rhythm that feels rehearsed but deeply human. Each piece arrives like a pause in a song. You don’t check your phone here. You don’t rush. You just listen: to the sound of a knife, a pour of sake, the stillness of a room that knows exactly what it’s doing.
Order the omakase. Trust the pace. Let the city fade for a while.
Make the res. Respect the fish.
Whether you’re visiting or Missing LA
Craig’s — West Hollywood

There are places in LA where the city feels like a movie. Craig’s is one of them.
The food is actually good, which matters more than you’d think for a place this iconic. Get the chopped salad. Enjoy the complimentary bread with honey. Don’t overthink it. If Matt’s your server, you’re set. He’s one of those people who can read a table on sight; easy to talk to, zero ego, makes the night feel smooth.
If you’re here, book a late reservation and lean into the moment. If you’re somewhere else, picture the warm neon glow on Melrose and the slow, steady hum of traffic outside. Sometimes LA is about the room you’re in, and the way it makes you feel.
Say Hi to Matt for me.
